Football (soccer) is the world's most popular sport - it's played in more than 200 countries - and remains the number one sport to bet on for millions around the globe, especially for the newer bettor.
If you follow a football team, or follow the game in general, you have a real advantage in betting on the sport. You will be able to determine as well as the bookie – if not better – which of two teams is likely to win, or whether a lot of goals (or no goals) will be scored, etc.
You can bet on who will win a game, the correct score, or how many goals, corners or even sendings-off there will be. In fact, there are so many different football bets available, we have prepared a guide to the types of football bet. We also have a separate section explaining with the mysteries of Asian Handicap betting.
With the football season starting in August and lasting until May, and then international championships in the summer, there are football matches to bet on virtually throughout the year.
OUR TOP TIP
A classic football bet for the new bettor is on Over 2.5 goals. (If this means nothing to you, see our guide to different bets.) Have a look at the scoring records of teams in the Premiership, to see how many goals they typically score and concede. If you have a match between two teams who score well week after week - or alternatively let goals in week after week - then a bet on Over 2.5 goals may be worthwhile.
